ExplanationWhy it works this way.

Chatleadr vs Chatbase

An honest comparison of Chatleadr and Chatbase for AI chatbots trained on your own content — price, capability, and where each one wins.

Chatbase is the closest comparison to Chatleadr. Both sell an AI assistant trained on your own content, embedded on your site, that answers questions and can take actions. If you are evaluating us, you are probably evaluating them.

The short version#

Chatleadr is cheaper at every rung, on the sticker price and per conversation. Chatbase is the more mature product with the larger ecosystem.

That is the trade. It is a real one in both directions.

Price#

ChatleadrChatbase
Entry paid plan$29$40
Mid plan$79 for 8,000 conversations$150 for 10,000
Upper plan$199 for 20,000$500 for 40,000
Free tierYesYes

Per conversation that works out at $0.0099 against $0.015 at the mid tier, and $0.0100 against $0.0125 at the upper one. So the plan costs about half as much and each conversation inside it costs about a third less.

We are not discounting into unprofitability to get there — every plan clears a 60% margin even if you use every last conversation and connect every channel you are entitled to. We would rather show you the arithmetic than ask you to trust the headline.

Where Chatleadr is stronger#

Abilities that actually execute. Our workflow builder runs deterministic flows — forms, API calls, branching, transforms — chosen by the assistant and then executed exactly as drawn. This is the core of the product rather than an add-on.

Lead capture as a first-class feature. Leads have their own table, tagging, CSV export, email notification and ClickUp sync. The bot exists to produce leads, so the leads are not an afterthought.

WhatsApp and Instagram as real channels. Same bot, same abilities, same lead capture, on channels where South African customers actually are.

Description quality is checked. We refuse to enable an AI ability with no usable description and then check the description against a five-rule rubric. That sounds small. It moved ability accuracy from 90.7% to 99.1% on our own live bots.

Where Chatbase is stronger#

Volume above our ceiling. Their top plan carries 40,000 conversations against our 20,000. If you genuinely need that much, we would be selling you top-ups on top of a plan, and at that point the comparison stops being flattering to us — have the conversation with us before you sign rather than after.

Maturity and ecosystem. They are a larger company with a longer track record, more integrations built, and far more third-party material written about them. If you want to search a problem and find someone who has already solved it, that is worth something real.

Breadth of model choice. They expose more underlying model options than we do. We select the model per purpose and measure it ourselves, which is a deliberate trade — fewer knobs, chosen on evidence — but it is a trade, and if you want to pick your own model we are the wrong product.

Team features. Multi-seat and workspace separation are further along there than here. Ours are on the roadmap and not shipped, and we do not advertise them as though they were.

Where neither wins#

Neither of us is a live chat help desk. If you want agents sitting in an inbox taking over conversations, look at Tidio and that category instead.

Who should pick which#

Pick Chatleadr if you are a small or mid-sized business, you want the bot to do things rather than only answer, you care about leads landing somewhere useful, you want WhatsApp, or you are in South Africa and want to be billed and supported accordingly.

Pick Chatbase if you need more than 20,000 conversations a month, you want the largest ecosystem, or you specifically want to choose the underlying model yourself.
