Your First Bot in Ten Minutes
A new account starts on the Free plan, which is enough to get a bot answering from your own content on your own site. No card is needed. See plans and limits.

1. Sign Up#
Create your account, then give your name, your company and your team size. Chatleadr creates your workspace and opens the bot setup wizard.
2. Give Your Chatleadr Bot a Goal#
The wizard's first step asks for three things.
A name. What the bot calls itself, and the heading on the chat panel.
A primary goal. One of three, and it steers how the bot handles a conversation:

The goal does not decide whether leads are collected. Whichever goal you pick, a new bot asks every visitor for their name and email, and saves a lead only when it gets both. Change what it asks for on the bot's Lead capture tab. See how a lead is captured.
A personality. Friendly, Professional, Expert or Advisor, each with a matching avatar you can replace later.
These three are the whole persona. What the bot knows comes from the next step, and bot settings covers changing any of it later.
3. Let It Read Your Website#
The second step asks for your website address and reads it. It takes five to ten seconds, and what it finds becomes the bot's first knowledge document.
That address is also the bot's domain, the main website this bot answers on, so use the address visitors actually type. For putting the same bot on a second website, see install on any website.
4. Put It on Your Site#
The wizard finishes by offering you the snippet. Paste it before the closing body tag of your site and publish.
A new bot is switched off, and a switched-off bot shows nothing on the page. Open the bot from Bots and turn on Bot replies to messages.

5. Check It Works#

What to Do Next#
The Free plan answers questions from your knowledge base. Collecting details, calling an API and capturing a lead are workflow work, and the workflow builder starts on Starter.
Two things first:
Add what the website does not say. Prices, policies, opening hours and the answers you type out repeatedly usually live somewhere other than your public copy. See the knowledge base.
Write a greeting. Set Greeting Message on the bot's Conversation tab. The widget shows it when the chat opens, word for word as you wrote it.

Do I Need a Card to Start?#
No. The Free plan needs no payment details.
What If I Do Not Have a Website Yet?#
The wizard reads a site to build the first knowledge document. Without one, skip ahead and add a knowledge document by hand.
Can I Change the Name, Goal or Personality Later?#
Yes. The name is on the bot's Setup tab, and the goal and personality are on its Personality tab. A change applies from the next message, including in a conversation already running.
How Many Bots Can I Have?#
Your plan sets the number. See plans and limits. One bot can cover more than one website, as long as every address is recorded for it: see install on any website.
Why Does the Bot Not Know Something on My Website?#
The bot answers only from its knowledge base, and the scrape reads text, so a page built mostly of images leaves little to capture. Open the bot's Knowledge tab to see what it got, and add the facts it missed.
